Obituary for Bertha R. Rahe

Bertha R. Rahe, 72, of Walker, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, in her home, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by Father Gabriel Anderson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, where a Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker.

Survivors include her children, Douglas (Pamela) Rahe of Marion, Karen (Ed) Stephenson of Independence, Cynthia (Ronald) Winn of Walker, Deb (Dennis) Zabokrtsky of Center Point, and Pamela (Greg) Carroll of Ryan; 12 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Mel Huerter of Marion, Eugene Huerter of Pella and Kenny Huerter of California; and four sisters, Doris Westbrock of Arizona, Arlene Hlas of Washington, Mary Thielen of Wisconsin and Diane Clark of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a daughter, Sheila Ann; a son, Robert Michael; and a grandson, Andrew Winn.

Bertha was born August 14, 1932, the daughter of Henry and Josephine Schurmann Huerter, in Seneca, Kansas. On May 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Edward Rahe at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. He died June 18, 1987. A loving mother, Bertha also worked at Sherbon’s Market in Walker for 19 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Walker American Legion Auxiliary.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Bertha.
