Obituary for Wendy Marie Bascom

Wendy Marie (Claflin) Garthwaite Bascom, 52, of 1500 7th Avenue, died Friday, January 21, 2005, in her home of brain cancer. Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jennifer (Michael) McLaud of Marion and Amy Grizzell (Terry Sauer) of Marion; her mother, Jean Claflin of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mary (David) Holliday of Marion; and a brother, Dan (Donna) Claflin of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Cody, Zachary, Jeremy, Austin, Gage, Kali and Remington; two step-grandchildren, Mandy and husband Jason and Koady; a step-great-granddaughter, Tayia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Bruce.

Wendy was born the daughter of Bruce and Jean (Bennett) Claflin on July 15, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1970 and was employed at Commercial Towel Service in Cedar Rapids.

Wendy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Wendy’s memory.
