Obituary for Anna Biel (Hartl)

Anna M. Biel, age 91, of Beaver Dam, died on Friday, September 1, 2006 at the UW Hospital in Madison.

Visitation for Anna M. Biel will be held on Wednesday, Sept 6, 2006 at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM and again at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 South Spring St, Beaver Dam. Father John Schreiter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

The former Anna Mary Hartl was born on December 22, 1914 in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Mike and Clara (Neis) Hartl. On November 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Mike Biel at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Columbus. Anna was a graduate of the Beaver Dam High School. She and her husband owned and operated the Vet's Bar in Columbus for many years. She also was the founder and operator of Ann's Truck Stop in Columbus for 13 years. She and her husband then moved to Beaver Dam and together they owned and operated the Ranch Tavern, later known as John's and now Bogey's. She was a longtime member of the Columbus American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish of Beaver Dam.

Survivors include her children, David (Jan) Biel of Medina, OH, John Biel of Beaver Dam, Mary Hartl Biel (Ed Lippert) of Madison and Robert (Shelly) Biel of Beaver Dam; her seven grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Nathan, Colin, Jennifer, Zachary and Mataia; her seven great grandchildren, Anna, Claire, Ella, Benjamin, Madeline, Wesley and Emily; her brother, Michael (Rosemary) Hartl of Beaver Dam, her brother-in-law, Lester Hafenstein of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mike in 1978 and her sisters Agnes Hafenstein and Frances Radke.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Anna Biel's name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish School or the charity of one's choice.
