Obituary for Harold E. Stone

Harold E.  Stone
Harold E. Stone, 84, of Windsor, Missouri, died Friday, December 4, 2009, at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo.

He was born January, 23, 1925, in Henry County, Missouri near Leeton, the son of Glenn Stone and Julia Opal (Askins) Stone. On July 29, 1950, at the Calhoun Christian Church in Calhoun, he married Doris Marie Northington, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2009.

Harold worked for the J.E. Dunn Construction Company in Kansas City for a number of years and helped build several of the buildings on the Central Missouri State University Campus (now University of Central Missouri). He then worked for the Peabody Coal Company in Montrose, Mo., from February, 1974 until January, 1987 and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Harold was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Indiana Battleship. He was also a member of the Calhoun Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post #2610 Windsor, Mo., and was a retired member of the Labors Local #1290, Kansas City, Mo. He was an avid organic gardener and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Donald D. Stone, Kansas City, Mo.; 3 daughters, Luanne M. Sanders and her husband Don L., Windsor, Mo.; Virginia S. Maloney and her husband, Steve D., Columbia, Mo.; and Dorene L. Stone-Ward and her husband, Timothy W., Charlotte, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Patrick J. Stone, Kevin J. Stone, Michael F. Stone, John R. Stone, Margie E. Stone, Tara D. Sanders, Davin L. Sanders, Daniel C. Maloney, Justin L. Maloney and Stephanie L. Koehler; 3 great-grandchildren, Zakary Maloney, Evelyn Maloney and Lyla Koehler ; a brother, Robert L. Stone, The Dalles, Oregon; a niece and a great-nephew. In addition to his wife, Doris, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Stone.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 7, at the Calhoun Methodist Church, Calhoun, Mo., with Pastor Margie Briggs officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Calhoun Methodist Church.
