Obituary for Lorraine Audrey Melendy (Horn)

Lorraine Melendy, 68, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away of cancer Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathon Oft. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
Lorraine was born April 1, 1940, in Caledonia, Minnesota, to Elmer and Bernice (Kuecker) Horn. She was a Cedar Rapids resident since 1959. Lorraine worked at Rockwell Collins for 29 years retiring in 1995. She was a member of IBEW 1362 for 28 years.
Lorraine was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she did volunteer work. She enjoyed traveling with her husband when they retired, reading, crossword puzzles, watching sports and tending to her flower gardens.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Teri (Bart) Hemesath; granddaughter, Erica McDaniel and fiancé Ryan Bascom, her “other” granddaughters, Cortnee Hemesath and Andrea (Adam) Fish; great grandchildren, Reece Hemesath and Gracie Fish. She is also survived by her sisters, Gerry (Norman) Oseth and LaVonne (Richard) Oitzman of Caledonia, Minnesota and Janice (Arlen) Doely of Spring Grove, Minnesota; two brothers, Dale (Carol) Horn of Caledonia, Minnesota and Wayne (Cathy) Horn of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Cel Horn of LaCrescent, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Ray Snell of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Melendy in 2006; her parents; three brothers, Wilmer and two as infants; and one sister, Beverly Snell.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice, Trinity Lutheran Church and Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
The family would like to thank friends, Brook of Mercy Hospice, and Wendy, Brandi and Linda and all the other wonderful staff and volunteers at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy and for their assistance during her illness.
