McVEYTOWN - Robert D. Smith, 78, of 182 Sheaffer Drive, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at his home.

Born March 26, 1935, in Oliver Township, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Blanche (Arnold) Smith.

Robert is survived by: his wife, Eleanor (Wert) Smith, whom he married on March 15, 1957; his son, Brian Smith and wife, Stacey, of McVeytown; and his grandchildren, Zachary, Caleb, Aaron and Nathan Smith.

He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Kohler, of Lewistown.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles, Harry and William Smith, Emma King, Myrtle Laub, Joanne Forgy and Betty Hile.

He was a member of the McVeytown Oliver High School Class of 1955.

He retired from Standard Steel, in Burnham, where he served in the maintenance department.

He was a member of the Strodes Mills Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also an Oliver Township supervisor.

Robert loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed entertaining folks at the senior centers and enjoyed golfing.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Strodes Mills Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan God officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Heller- Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown.
