Age 61 of Shorewood, went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, February 21, 2013. He led an exemplary Christian life and he was dearly loved by his family and friends. He accepted Christ as his personal savior, served Him faithfully and was not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. Thomas was a member of the Joliet First Church of the Nazarene, in Joliet, Illinois. Born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina on January 28, 1952 to Gordon and Catherine Whiteside, he spent most of his years in the Joliet and Shorewood area. He married Jean Morse Whiteside on November 25, 1972, and Thomas and Jean were blessed with six wonderful children who were the joy of their lives, along with their daughters-in-law, future daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Thomas worked for Commonwealth Edison, and Midwest Generation for a total of 37 years, and was to retire at the end of this year. He was a wonderful craftsman; loved tools, wood, and the excitement of completing a wonderful project. He enjoyed his time at his lake house on Clear Lake, Michigan, with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean (Morse) Whiteside; six cherished children, children-in-law, and grandchildren: Jeremiah (Trish), Josiah and Joshua; Nathanael (Emily), Trinity, Thomas, Benjamin, and Caleb; Jason (Erin), Emma; Mark (Shannon), Victoria, Marcus, and Alexandra; Paul (fiancée Rosanne); and Sarah. His adoring parents, Gordon and Catherine Whiteside of Joliet survive along with his three siblings; Sandra (Dan), Larry (Nellie), and Wanda (Gary). He is also survived by his in-laws, Burt Morse, Jim (Carolyn) Morse, and Bev (Thomas) Keck. Many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, also survive.

Thomas was preceded in death by his in-laws, Daryl and Martha Morse.

Funeral Services for Thomas Edward Whiteside will be Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet, IL. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Joliet First Church of the Nazarene, 1009 S. Briggs St., Joliet, IL, would be appreciated.
