Mary Eleanor Goldthwaite Anderson, 87, passed away peacefully
Wednesday, January 25, 2012, in Birmingham, AL following a long
struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was a dear and brave lady who never
gave in to pity or complaint about her circumstances. Family, friends
and caregivers will miss her deeply.

Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 29, 2012, at
the Dothan City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The
family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30
P.M. Sunday, January 29, 2012.

Meg, as she was known to all, was born in Andalusia, Al., August 23,
1924. She moved to her hometown of Dothan as a young girl and grew up
surrounded by family and friends. Upon graduation from Huntington
College, she was employed by The First National Bank of Dothan until
her marriage to Julian Anderson, a young Army officer stationed at
Fort Rucker, Al. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church
of Dothan.

A devoted wife and mother of two daughters, she worked diligently to
provide a stable, happy home in the midst of the turmoil which
accompanies a military family. Few outside the military appreciate the
sacrifices and upheavals the lifestyle requires of all.

Meg was preceded in death by her parents, John Randall Goldthwaite and
Willie Belle Morris Goldthwaite, and brother, John Randall
Goldthwaite, Jr., She is survived by her husband, Colonel Julian A.
Anderson, U.S. Army retired; by her children, Patricia Anne Ulbricht
of Birmingham, AL., and Julie Arden Culp of Orlando, Fl., and their
spouses, Fred W. Ulbricht, Jr. and William Scott Culp; her beloved
grandchildren, Amanda Culp Rockwood, Benjamin G. Ulbricht, Katherine
Culp Bowser, Alexander A. Ulbricht, and Stephanie Elizabeth Culp; a
great-grandchild, Abigail Arden Bowser, and her dear sister-in-law,
Anne Funke Goldthwaite.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kirkwood by the River,
Birmingham, Al., for the excellent care and loving kindness shown
during her long illness.
