Obituary for Sarah Bell Almany

Mrs. Sarah Bell Almany, age 83, of 1860 Carroll Creek Road, Johnson City, passed away, Monday, October 31, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Almany was a native of Jonesborough who had lived most of her life in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Shipley and Rowena “Burt” Maupin Shipley. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one brother, John H. Shipley, Jr.; one nephew, Mark Shipley. Mrs. Almany graduated from Boones Creek High School, where she played basketball. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Boones Creek Christian Church. She was a member of the Aquaris Temple # 138. Survivors include: her loving husband of sixty-six years, J.D. Almany of the home; three sisters, Christine Feathers of Knoxville, Rowena Bowers and her husband Howard “Lefty” Bowers of Johnson City and Diana Gale Loyd of Jonesborough; three brothers, James Shipley and his wife Shirley of Boones Creek, Dan Shipley of Boones Creek and Bill Shipley of Lenoir City, Tn.; one uncle, Walter P. Maupin of Gray; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Bell Almany will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, November 3, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. David Clark, Minister and Dick Morris, Minister will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Friday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steve Loyd, Jeff Shipley, Jonathan Shipley, Rick Bowers, Mike Shipley, Jeter Cook, Tom Frazier, Denny Dugger, John Feathers, Ronnie Feathers, James “Bo” Woodruff and Charlie Campbell. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Friday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service and other times at the residence and at the residence of the brother Dan Shipley, 1868 Carroll Creek Road. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Transportation Fund, P. O. Box 5548, Kingsport, Tn. 37663.
