Obituary for Annie Pearl Walker Pickering Johnson

Annie Pearl Walker Johnson age 91, a life long resident of Plantersville passed away on Thursday February 11, 2010 at Bibb Medical Center with her children by her side. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 15, 2010 in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Short and Rev. Glenn Walker officiating and burial following at Plantersville Christian Cemetery.
She was born on November 12, 1918, the daughter of the late Roscoe Earnest and Katie Walker and the second of eight children. In 1938 she married A.M. (Dick) Pickering of Plantersville, and together they raised their five daughters and her stepson. After Mr. Pickering’s death in 1961, she married Wallace Johnson of Selma, AL. Mrs. Johnson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her home was always open to family and friends. She had nieces, nephews and friends of her children who spent much time in her home and many considered her their second mother. She was affectionately called “Nanny” by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-granddaughter, and many of their friends. Special nieces, Margaret Alois Pickering, Kay Walker Wilkes, special nephews, Donnie Walker, Lee Conant, Pat Conant, the late James Allen Cale, and her daughter’s friends, Katherine Garrison Rotker and Frances Herrod Nelson were like her own children and spent many happy days with her and her family. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed working in her garden raising vegetables every year including this past summer. She was a loving, strong and determined person and will greatly be missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, A.M. (Dick) Pickering, her second husband, Wallace Johnson, daughter, Doris Pickering Deason, granddaughter, Connie Deason Casali, son-in-law, Billy Wheatley, sister and brother-in-law, Lela and Wade Ousley, brothers, J.W. “Buddy” Walker, Earl Walker, Willie Walker, and Earnest Walker, nephew, James Allen Cale, and life long friend, Ann Moore Bruner.
She is survived by her stepson, Dr. John M. Pickering of Montgomery, AL, four daughters, Faye (Bobby) Deason, Catherine (Bill) Fulford, all of Centreville, AL, Laura Wheatley of Prattville, AL, Dickie (David) Atchison of Plantersville, AL, sister, Evelyn (Tommy) Aultman, brother, Wylie (Virgie) Walker, sisters-in-law, Norma Grossman, Lettie Walker, and Ruth Ann Walker, son-in-law, Benny Deason of Centreville, AL, eight grandchildren, Jody Deason of Centreville,AL, Chip (Summer) Deason of Lexington, S.C., Dale Fulford of Waynesville, N.C., Mara (Robbie) Outlaw of Point Clear, AL, Michelle Wheatley Spence of Prattville, AL Darren (Kim) Atchison of Plantersville, Dana (Shane) Epperson of Centreville, Misha (Jason) Stewart of McCalla, AL, three step-grandchildren, David Pickering, Mark Pickering, Lacey Pickering Hunt, seven great-grandchildren, Kelsie (Kevin) Tate, Katie Carroll, Kodie Atchison, Garrett Spence, Emily Atchison, Pierson Atchison, Bailey Stewart, six step great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hunt, Catherine Hunt, Lacey Pickering Silvey, John Pickering, Andrew Pickering, Anne Pickering, one very special great great-granddaughter, Kaizer Tate whom she called “Her Baby,”, and a host of nieces nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dale Fulford, Jody Deason, Darren Atchison, Chip Deason, Garrett Spence, Jason Stewart, Gino, Casali, and Pierson Atchison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Levins, Tommy Herrod, TJ Herrod, Jamie Herrod, Allen Pickering, Tommy Sherrer, Chris Connor, King Parker, Gene Garrison, Milton Harrison, Dr. Chris Black, and Dr. John Meigs.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her loving and caring doctor of many years, Dr. Chris Black of Birmingham, AL, nurses and doctors of Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and Bibb Medical Center in Centreville,AL
The family will receive friends on Monday February 15, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
