Thomas J. Salem

DRACUT, MA- Thomas J. Salem, 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret M. (McKeon) Salem, with whom he shared many loving years of marriage until her passing. Born in Lowell on November 21, 1926, he was a son of the late Joseph and Sophie Salem. Thomas was educated at St. Patricks’s Catholic School and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII, in the Pacific Theater, until he was honorably discharged. Prior to his retirement, Thomas worked as an Engineer at Raytheon for over 35 years. He also served as chairman for the Dracut Housing Authority and as Town Moderator. In his spare time Tom enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also actively engaged in local politics and enjoyed following the horse races at Rockingham Park. Thomas is survived and will be deeply missed by his five children, Thomas Salem and his wife Patty, Mark Salem and his wife Sheila, Peter Salem and his wife Lisa, and Joan Salem and John Salem who were caregivers for their father at home for many years, all of Dracut; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Sonya, Nathan, Shauna, Peter, Samantha, Joshua, and John Salem; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two of his children, Margaret M. and Joseph Salem; his three brothers, George, Peter, and Luis Salem; and three sisters, Millie, Cecilia, and Ida Salem. ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on SATURDAY, June 24th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. His Funeral Mass will be held following calling hours at 1:00 p.m. in St. Marguerite D'Youville Church, Dracut. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Dracut.
