Gloria Dean Schiff, 87, of Johnston City, passed away at 2:16 p.m., Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side. Gloria was born January 19, 1930 in Herrin to Netter and Flora English. She married Daniel J. Schiff on January 14, 1950 in Johnston City. Together they have shared 67 years of marriage. Gloria was a beautician for several years and later was department manager at Elder Beermann Department Store in Carbondale. She was a 1948 graduate of Herrin High School. Gloria was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City and was also a member of Stardust Golf Course in Johnston City. She enjoyed playing golf. She had a love for animals and enjoyed feeding the birds. She also loved to go shopping with her daughters and spending time with her family. She always made each Christmas a special time for her family as it was her favorite time of year. Survivors include her husband Daniel J. Schiff of Johnston City; two daughters; Gwendolyn Coulson and Laura (Rick) Cobb of Johnston City; two sons-in-law, Randy Brymer and Randy Coulson of Johnston City; three grandchildren, Danny (Michelle) Brymer, Derek Coulson and Ashley Cobb all off Johnston City; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Shelby Brymer, Alec and Brayden Coulson and Sadie Brooke Cobb; sister, Deloris Wilson of New Athens and Bill English of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deneil Brymer; two brothers, James and Harvey English and two sisters, Thelma Larwenski and Margaret English The family wishes to thank her care givers, Shirley #1, Cheryl, Becky, Emma, Jean, Lisa, Shirley #2 for the love and care given to our mom. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City with Msgr. Thomas Flack officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
