Suzanne Cushingberry Leesburg, Florida Obituary

Suzanne Cushingberry

Suzanne Hudson Cushingberry, 67, passed away peacefully at Lane Purcell Hospice House on June 21, 2017. Although she had battled cancer for the last two years, it wasn't until the last few days that she had to slow down a little bit, even hiking on June 10 to see a bench dedicated in memory of her brother, Chuck, on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Sue was born June 10, 1950, in Fulton, New York, to Daniel and Lois Hudson. Her family moved to Leesburg, Florida, when she was 7 and the majority of her extended family is still there. She joined the Air Force and met her husband Bruce while at tech school. They were stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1977 where they stayed after leaving the military. After her four years in the military, Sue went to college to become a school teacher, which was truly her calling. She touched hundreds of children's lives over her 32 years as a teacher in Christian schools, putting her mark on them as they progressed into smarter young men and women. But what she is most known for is her absolute love of Jesus and the Christian radiance that poured out of her through her smile, character and overall positive outlook on life. Sue is predeceased by her parents; her younger brother, Charles Hudson; and her grandsons, Chester Trent Anderson and Saeed Pryor. She is survived by husband of 40 years Bruce Cushingberry; son Jason (Natalie) Brundage; daughter Kelley (Stephen) Stirling; step-daughter, Vicki Thompson; multiple grandchildren and great grand-children; sisters Amy Nave and Doris (Dick) Codding; brother David (Melodie) Hudson; and multiple nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Sue will take place at First Baptist Church of Leesburg, Florida, in the chapel on Saturday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held in Alamogordo, New Mexico, at Christ Community Church on Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m.
