Thelma Shirley “Sue” Eckas, 81, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2017, a victim of cancer. Sue was born on the family farm in Clarinda, Iowa, on December 18, 1935, to Arthur M. and Roxy Fay (Pearson) Finley. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister. Shortly after graduating from High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, Sue enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. It was while she was stationed in San Diego, California, that she met her first husband and fellow Marine, James L. Dinges. They moved to Colorado shortly after completing their enlistments and raised two sons. Children were always a major part of her life, whether her own, or the countless children she cared for as a Pre-School teacher for over thirty years in the Greeley area. Sue married Manuel Eckas in 1985, with the two remaining happily married until her death. She is survived by two sons, Steve (Chris) and Mike (Trish), as well as three grandsons. A graveside military service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area “A” in Denver on Wednesday, July 5 at 10:00 am. Memorial gifts may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society for research in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
