Obituary written and submitted by family: Michael Robert Montante drifted off quietly to be with the Lord while napping on Saturday evening, the 17th of June, 2017. Born on Monday, October 26th, 1925 in Buffalo, New York to Angelo Guy and Frances (Frucella) Montante, he was known to family and friends as “papa”, “Monty” and “Mike”. Mike is survived by his wife Gloria of over 69 years whom he married on May 29th, 1948 at the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in San Gabriel, California, and 4 generations of children numbering 43. Mike served faithfully in war and peace, always responsible and reliable to family and friends, at work, home, church and civic duties. He worked for his father as a boy and took a temporary job with the railroad just after serving in WWII that turned into a 42 year career with Greyhound Lines, Inc. Since his early years, Mike has demonstrated a pastoral bent as well, having led a church youth group through which he met Gloria after the war. Later, he would conduct a bible study along with prayer meetings that he continued for many years to resist what he observed in society as the family unit broke down and children went without solid direction. Mike and Gloria are probably best known for their dedication to love, kindness and generosity in their home and wherever they went. You always felt welcomed by them, with a deep sense of belonging and acceptance. They always believed the best, stating that their children “all have good morals and love the Lord.” Mike’s memory continues in the hearts of Gloria and his extensive family who all remember his faith and conviction that love sums up the entire bible. He gave credit for a “full and happy life” to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his lovely wife Gloria.
