Condolences

Condolence From: David St. John
Condolence: I just received a copy of the obituary for Dr. Jelden clipped from the Greeley Tribune. I was saddened to learn of his passing.

I was honored to have Dr. Jelden serve as my advisor while working on my masters degree. I enjoyed his classes. He always challenged me to do my very best. I chose to follow in his footsteps by attending the University of Missouri - Columbia for my PhD in Industrial Education.

While undergraduates, Lois and I had the pleasure of knowing the Jeldens as temporary residents in Jackson Housing where they lived just down the street. The Jelden boys were very young at that time. One memory I would share stems from attending the AIAA Convention in Las Vegas. One afternoon found Mrs. Jelden and I removing our shoes from some very tired feet and putting our sock feet up on the coffee table in the lobby of Cesar's Palace where we waited for Dr. Jelden to complete a meeting.

I have always admired Dr. Jelden as a Professor, Colleague, and I would like to think a friend.

Condolence: To the Jelden family, my wife Lisa and I just want to express our condolences for the loss of Dr. Jelden. He was a very special man to me, from my high school years to visiting with him during morning coffee at Toddy’s. I also had the opportunity to work with him while he and I were at UNC. He used to tell me to stop calling him Dr. Jelden when we were at Toddy’s, but I had too much respect for him and just could not call him Dave, so I stated calling him Dr. J. I guess he thought that was all right. He was a great man and will be truly missed. We are sorry that we did not find out about his passing sooner, or we would have been at the services. Just know that Lisa and I have your family in our prayers. God bless you.

Condolence: Dear Rosie and family: Reva and I have been out of town for the last week and just discovered Dave's death from back issues of the Greeley Tribune. Of course, if we had been in town, we would have attended his funeral service as I always want to pay respect to former colleagues at UNC. But Dave was more than a colleague: he was a friend. I enjoyed him so much at the therapy pool and particularly enjoyed his recounting the successes of his kids and grandkids. What a bunch - especially to hear him tell it with pride and joy! I cannot describe how much I enjoyed Dave as a professional colleague - the very best in every sense of both of those terms. He was supportive when support was needed and a good critic when that was needed. The University is better because of his service, but , more importantly, he had a profound impact upon his students, both professionally and personally. He enriched their lives, as well as the lives of all of us who were lucky enough to know him. I will miss him. Please accept our deepest sympathies, Rosie and all the family whom we knew or even hadn't known. Your lives will be vacant, yet full of good memories and pride. Blessings as you face the future.
