Obituary for Mildred Geneva McCroskey (Howren)

Mrs. Mildred Geneva Howren McCroskey, age 85, of 2512 Callier Springs Road, Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at a local hospital.

Mrs. McCroskey was born in Floyd County, Georgia on October 5, 1925, daughter of the late Alvin Howren and the late Annie Lipham Howren. She was a member of the Day Spring Assembly of God and worked for a number of years as a nurse at Fifth Avenue Nursing Home and Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter McCroskey, in 1970.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” McCroskey; 2 sons, Walter Randolf McCroskey, New Orleans, LA, and Marvin Franklin McCroskey, Chattanooga, TN; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with her Pastor, the Rev. Robert Anderson, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1:30pm and include: Clinton McCroskey, Ryan McCroskey, Don Collins, Johnny Phillips, Brian Grant, and Garrett Hardy.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
