Obituary for Mabel I. Cotter (Tait)

SIOUX CITY -- Mabel I. Cotter, 99, of Sioux City died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at her residence with her family near by.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael J. Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a St. Joseph Guild rosary at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Mabel was born Nov. 21, 1911, in Sioux City, the daughter of Alexander and Ada (Straw) Tait. She graduated from Central High School in 1929.
She married Joseph F. Cotter on Feb. 10, 1933, in Sioux City. He died on June 28, 1985, in Sioux City. Mabel worked at St. Vincent Hospital as a nurse's aide for many years. She also worked as a volunteer st St. Joseph School for many years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Guild and Legion of Mary. She was a grandma to everyone and a real caregiver to family and friends.
Mabel is survived by two daughters, LaVonne Elmore of Sioux City and Marion Kay Asher of Spanaway, Wash.; six grandchildren, Catherine (Barry) Head of Canada, Joe Elmore of Sioux City, Randall (Cleo) Asher of Hawaii, Lori Martin of Spanaway, Tim (Kelli) Asher of Puyallup, Wash., and Brenda Asher of Spanaway; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Aaron, Cassie, John, Brock, Ryan A., Jordan, Ryan H., Leah, Larissa and Kylie; a great-great-grandchild, Kolton; and special friends, Kate Skuodas, Denise Semple and Taylor Henry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter and Alex Tait; two sisters, June Venzke and Bertha Kopp; and a son-in-law, Jack Asher.
The family would like to acknowledge Hospice of Siouxland for the care and love that was shown to Mabel.
Memorials in Mabel's name may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
