Obituary for Carlon M. Holub

Carlon M. Holub, 88, formerly of Central City, died Thursday, April 7 2005, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday (April 10) at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City, where a scripture service will begin at 6 p.m.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Holub and wife Zona of Coggon and Gary Holub of Marion; two daughters, Karen Vanourney and husband Richard and Cheryl Hagerman and husband Randy, all of Central City; eleven grandsons; one granddaughter; and ten great-grandchildren (one due in April.)

She was preceded in death by her husband Emil in 2000; an infant daughter, Mary Kathryn; three brothers, Eugene, Vernon and Marion Himes; and two sisters, Ida Beranek and Zita Powers.

Carlon was born Novemeber 4, 1916, the daughter of William Lewis and Catherine (Duffy) Himes in Linn County, Iowa. She was married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg to Emil A. Holub on November 4, 1936. Carlon was a homemaker and was a cook at Evergreen Nursing Home in Marion for many years. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Carlon.
