Obituary for Lester Hafenstein

Lester H. Hafenstein, age 85, of Beaver Dam, died on Monday, February 12, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.

Friends may call at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, February 15, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Friday, February 16, 2007 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 South Spring Street, in Beaver Dam. Funeral Services will follow the visitation on Friday at 11:00 AM at the church with Fr. Carlos Florez officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Lowell VFW Post # 9392.

Lester Harold Hafenstein was born on October 12, 1921 in the Town of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Herman and Christina (Schultz) Hafenstein. He married Agnes C. Hartl on June 19, 1946 in Beaver Dam. Lester proudly served in the Coast Guard in the Pacific during World War II from1942 to 1945. He worked for Metalfab for 22 years and also owned and operated his own roofing business. Lester was a life member of the Lowell VFW Post # 9392 and the American Legion Post # 146. He was also a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, formerly St. Peter's Catholic Church. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing and hobby farming for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his children, Margaret (Ralph) Andersen, Town of Burnett, Ray Hafenstein, Bullhead City, AZ, Jim (Bernie) Hafenstein, Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren, Bob (Dana) Reinke, Beaver Dam, Mark (Shawn) Reinke, Beaver Dam, Nicholas Hafenstein, Beaver Dam, Julie (Justin Johnson) Hafenstein, Centuria, Tim (Jill) Hafenstein, Milwaukee, Bethany (Jamie) Reige, Eagle River, Jill (Dan) Klawitter, Beaver Dam, Victoria Hafenstein, Milwaukee, Debra Hafenstein, Beaver Dam; six great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Mike & Rosemary Hartl of Beaver Dam; former daughter-in-law, Sue Hafenstein, Laughlin, NV; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hafenstein was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Agnes on February 15, 1984, his infant daughter, Patricia; Brothers, Harvey (Millie) Hafenstein and Herbert (Edith) Hafenstein; his sister, Florence (Leo) Plankel; and two sisters-in-law, Anna (Mike) Biel and Frances (Loren) Radke.
