Obituary for Paul Mills Ireland, III

Paul Mills Ireland III, 57, of Fort Collins died on November 6, 2006 at Poudre Valley Hospital surrounded by those who loved him.Paul was born December 24, 1948 in Nuremberg, Germany to Betty Jean and Paul M. Ireland, Jr. He lived all over the world with his military family prior to enlisting in the Army at the age of 18. He served his country valiantly as a Green Beret in Vietnam, earning 3 Bronze Stars with V Device for valor and a Purple Heart. Following his military service, he attended Colorado State University and made Fort Collins his home. He became an avid rugby player and made many lifelong friends through rugby. After college, he served in the Colorado National Guard for 30 years attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. His other military decorations included the Legion of Merit, numerous Meritorious Service medals, several Army Commendation medals, multiple Army Achievement medals, 8 Army Good Conduct medals, and Vietnam Campaign medals.Paul was an avid hunter and loved the beautiful outdoors. He was blessed to be surrounded by many friends and family members who will greatly miss his sense of humor, loyalty, and quick wit. Paul was pre-deceased by his father, Paul M. Ireland, Jr., and his son, Paul M. Ireland, IV. He is survived by his mother and step-father, B.J. and George Hall of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Kelly Ireland, of Fort Collins; a former wife, Donna Ireland, of Fort Collins; two sisters: Linda Ireland of Martinez, CA and Susan Morgan of Wexford, PA; and three nieces: Jenny Foot of Fairfax, VA, Allison Morgan of Indianapolis, IN and Melissa Morgan of Wexford, PA.A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Silver Grill Café, 218 Walnut Street.Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the CU Foundation of Mountain States Regional Hemophilia Center in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
