Delmer Eural Hunter, Jr., 88, of Loveland, passed away January 4, 2008.He was born on January 30, 1919 in Manzanola, Colorado to Delmer E. and Ethel Marie Hunter. Delmer attended Manzanola High School and two years at the University of Colorado. He was a graduate of the Williams Institute Mortuary Science in Kansas City, KS. He married Helen Converse Haines on October 5, 1941. She died on November 29, 1991. He married Annie Juanita Jackson Curtis on August 4, 1993. She died on December 8, 2001.Delmer was a retired Funeral Director. He was first registered as a Funeral Director-Embalmer in 1940. He worked in Manzanola, CO; Lamar, CO; and Greeley, CO, before coming to Loveland with his brother, Marion and purchasing the Hammond Funeral Home in 1953, subsequently building the Garden Chapel in 1961 and finally selling the business to Allnutt Funeral Service in 1985. Following the sale, Delmer continued to assist on funerals for over 20 years.Delmer was a member of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association, the National Selected Morticians and had served on the Board of Colorado Funeral Examiners. He served on the Loveland City Council at the time of building the City Building at 5th and Jefferson and the building of the joint airport with Fort Collins and served as a member of the Airport Board for 10 years. Delmer was an active member of the First Christian Church, serving in many capacities over the years. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a Past Master belonging to Loveland Lodge No. 53 A.F.& A.M. and to the Scottish Rite. He was a past Noble Grand of the Loveland Lodge No. 36, I.O.O.F. He served on the Board of Directors of the Big Thompson Manor Apartments from the time they were built. He was a member of the Loveland Rotary Club, a past President of the Cosmopolitan Club, a past member of the Board of Larimer County Hospice, a past member of the board of the House of Neighborly Service, a past member of the Board of the United Way.He is survived by his two sons, Douglas L. (Janet) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Delmer E. III (Linda) of Loveland, CO; stepson, Michael Curtis (Chris) of Longmont, CO; stepdaughter, Mary Kimberly Kuxhausen (David) of Loveland; 14 grandchildren, Darin and (Laura), Joel, Eric and (Britney), Jennifer, Kevin (Kristen), Barbara, Kathryn and Alex Hunter, Jody, and Brady Curtis, Ryan (Cynthia) and Todd (Brooke) Kuxhausen, William and Mindy Schwamly; and 3 great grandchildren, Cade and Cacheus Kuxhausen and Alex Schwamly. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Donald and Marion; and sister, Evelyn Hammond.A visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday at Allnutt Hunter Chapel and the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.A funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday at First Christian Church. Interment at Loveland Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Larimer County or First Christian Church in care of Allnutt Funeral Service-Hunter Chapel.
