Condolence From: Linda Preston
Condolence: My Deepest Sympathy to all. My regrets on not being able to make the funeral. Coach Roberts gave me the opportunity to make Johnson City, Tennessee my second home. He recruited me as a 19 year old, from Toronto, Ontario Canada running for the Lady Bucs Track team from 1979 to 1983, and furthering my education working on my Masters and assisting him with the Lady Bucs Track team from 1983 to 1985. I owe so much to him, and will be forever grateful! Our team was so close, and he was so supportive and compassionate. He loved his boys, and we were all truly like family loved being on the team, and running and meeting so many wonderful teammates/roomates and friends that today I consider like family. This was only made possible by Coach Roberts. We travelled , we laughed fact we laughed so hard, that he would turn bright red, so I nicknamed him, "The tomatoe with hair". We went on so many great track adventures travelling state to state, with our biggest accomplishment, flying to Pocatello Idaho, in 1981, for the AIAW National Championships I will never forget this special time in my life. He was truly patient with "this young Canadian" always allowing me to get out of the van, to take pictures every time we passed a sign entering a new state. These found memories over 30 years ago, still have made such a impact on my life that they come back just like it was yesterday I want to say how grateful I am to have had all these wonderful experiences. They say , Friends are our angels on earth, this is so true, as I have been so blessed to have had Coach Roberts, in my life. I am deeply saddened, but so grateful to have known him. With Deepest Sympathy, Linda Preston
