Roy Lee  Coley
Roy Lee Coley born June 15, 1949 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina gave up his amazing battle leaving his earthly home for his Heavenly Home on May 24, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family at CMC Main in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Receiving will be Friday May 27, 2011 from 5:00-8:00pm at Gordon Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina and a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday May 28, 2011 at 11:00am at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Gold Hill, North Carolina. Pastors Anthony Moore, Charles Efird and Mitch Wilson will officiate the service with burial following in the church cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Cabarrus County he is the son of the late Doctor William Coley and the late Mary Alice Henley Coley. Roy was a 1968 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and a 1980 graduate of Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina with a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.
He married his wife Sylvia Flowe Coley in 1968 and the couple had 42 wonderful years together. Roy was employed in 1972 with Concord Police Department and began his career as a patrol officer. He retired from the department in 1994 from the position of Captain, and was an auxiliary officer for Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office upon his retirement from CPD. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 173rd session in 1993. Roy was a Past Master of Cabarrus Lodge #720 AF & AM. He was an active member of Northeast Cabarrus Volunteer Fire Department from 1986-2009 where he served as a volunteer firefighter and later on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Gold Hill, North Carolina. Roy loved spending time with his family and friends, the outdoors and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was a man that enjoyed hard work and showed this in every task set before him. His motivation and courage under any circumstance influenced not only his family but anyone Roy came in contact with. Roy’s courage came from his faith and love of the Lord and the belief that “Nothing is Impossible with God”.
Roy is survived in death by his loving and dedicated wife Sylvia Flowe Coley. His children, son Michael Coley and wife Christina Efird Coley, daughter Melissa Coley Swinson and husband Aaron Swinson of Mount Pleasant. His four grandchildren that were treasures to him: Jacob Coley, Jordan Coley, Elisabeth Swinson and Emma Grace Swinson. Sisters: Frances Coley Suther of Concord and Judy Coley Clevenger of Salisbury. Brothers: Ray Coley of Concord and twin Coy Coley of Mount Pleasant. Father-In-Law Robert Flowe of the home.
With sadness the family morns his leaving but they rejoice that Roy is healthy and walking with Jesus in Heaven.
