LEWISTON- Joseph A. St. Pierre, 83, of Lewiston died Friday May 13, 2011 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine on October 1, 1927 the son of Romeo and Isabelle (Tardiff) St. Pierre and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He attended Lewiston schools. He was employed at Bates Mill from 1943 to 1945.
He then joined the US Navy on June 18, 1945. Went to boot camp training at Sampson, New York. Following training he went to the US Naval Station in Honolulu, Hawaii and later served on mine sweeper USS Motive AMS 102, USS Stentor ARS 22, USS Union AKA 106, and on Submarine Tender USS Bushnell AS 15. He then was assigned to US Naval receiving station in Philadelphia, PA.. He then served on the USS Montrose APA 212, then went to C.N.O. Motor Pool, Washington D.C., as a chauffeur. His last assignment was on the USS Fulton AS 11 a Submarine Tender. He then retired from Navy service on April 1, 1975. During his time in service he received the following medals and awards; American Theatre Medal (WWII), Victory Medal (WWII), National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal ASIR, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, China Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Five Awards and Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal.
He then worked at Bath Iron Works as an outside machinist for ten years. He was then employed at N.C. Rainville Medal Fabricating as a medal fabricator for 13 years.
He was active with Cub Scouts Pack 116, Boy Scout Troop 116 and 158 in camping activities. He bowled in Industrial Park Bowling League (Public Service Team) and “Young at Heart” senior group. Member of American Legion Post 31 of Auburn.
He enjoyed working around his home and was known to be a good handyman.
He is survived by his wife the former Estelle Saulnier whom he married on December 7, 1963 of Lewiston; one son Paul St. Pierre of Lewiston; two brothers Roland St. Pierre and his wife Pauline of Auburn and Normand St. Pierre and his wife Jessie of Colma, CA.; two sisters Jeanne Pacheco of Lewiston and Dot Woolford of Florida.

St. Pierre- Died in Lewiston Friday May 13, 2011. Mr. Joseph A. age 83 a resident of Lewiston. A Funeral Mass honoring Joseph’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11AM at Holy Cross Church. Committal prayers will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Patient Activity Fund at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion 102 Campus Avenue Lewiston, Maine 04240.
