Obituary for Francis J. Yakich Sr.

Francis J. Yakich, Sr., 70, of Center Twp., formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 10, 2011.

Born July 17, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Joseph and Stefonia (Hotnich) Yakich. A graduate of North Allegheny High School, Class of 1958, Francis was employed at LTV Steel Aliquippa Works in the blast furnace department and later as a construction inspector with PennDOT. While at LTV he served as a department grievance representative for the United Steelworkers Union. Family was the most cherished aspect of his life. He was always available for his wife and children whenever there was a need. One of his loves was camping. For over 40 years he and his family vacationed in their motorhome, especially traveling throughout the south.

Francis will be sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Janet L. (Hood) Yakich; his five children, Frank (Sharon) Yakich of Ambridge, Michael Yakich of DuBois, Susan Lorenz (Blaise Sava) of Center Twp., Thomas (Kelly) Yakich of Chippewa Twp. and Melissa Yakich of Center Twp.; five grandchildren, Nicole and Alec Yakich, Stephanie and Steven Lorenz and Blaise Sava II; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Kayden; four siblings, Barbara (Joseph) Wolford, Kathleen (Michael) Yost, Linda (Walter) Roth and Joseph (Roberta) Yakich; a brother-in-law, Gary (Cornelia) Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews and dear neighbors, Kevin and Cindy Frye.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where prayers will be offered Friday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini, Center Twp. Rev. Fr. Mariusz Malarczyk will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
