Obituary for Marie Tipton

Mrs. Marie Tipton, age 81, of 1707 East Millard Street, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Tipton was a native of Unicoi County who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Linda Foster. In addition to her mother her husband, Paris Tipton; two brother-in-laws, Mont Tipton and Lloyd Tipton; two sisters, Lelea Tyree and Vivan Whitaker also preceded her in death. Mrs. Tipton retired from Johnson City Medical Center as a Dietary Supervisor after forty-three years of service. She attended East Watauga Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include: her special friend, Lightning; one daughter, Susan Hawkins and son-in-law Walter Whaley of Stoney Creek; one son, Gordon Ray Tipton of Seiling, Oklahoma; one grandson, Aaron Adam Hawkins of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Deana Richey and her husband Larry of Johnson City; two sister in laws, Martha Busler and Madeline Johnson both of Johnson City; special daughters, Betty Brown of Johnson City, Debbie Hendrix of Johnson City, Brenda Marsh of Mount Carmel, Patty Coffey of Nashville and Linda Sweeney of International Falls, Minnesota, and Janie Walker of Jonesborough; special friends, Kayla Rogers, Jeff Hartley, Gordon Vaughn and his wife Vickie, Jane O’Connor and her husband Chris and Kathy Eads and her husband Jeff; two nieces and nine nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Marie Tipton will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Mike Dickenson will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Hawkins, Chipper Alford, Maynard Holloway, Carl Whitson, Richard Freeman and Bob Curtis. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service.
