Condolence: As I write this, my heart is heavy. Words cannot describe how difficult it was to hear that my Mother’s eldest and dearest sister had passed away. To my siblings and me, Aunt Laura’s death represents the end of an era. No longer will we have a maternal aunt to call on to tell us stories of when our Mom was a young girl. Stories were plenty and shared oft with a twinkle in her eye.

Aunt Laura was a wonderful person. Caring and gentle were her ways. As so many others have expressed here, her heart was one of gold. Memories and thoughts of her have rushed in for days. When I think of Aunt Laura, I think of idle and lazy summer days in Caplin Cove. I fondly recall sleepovers at Nan’s with her. I remember trips to the beach. I remember berry-picking for hours on end. I will never forget the woman who dropped in to Dad’s and held me as I cried, her own grief aside, the evening my Mother died. The list of the simple and loving gestures she displayed through the years are countless and have made a profound impact on who I am today. All of the space offered on this website could not even come close to match my memories of her.

Rest in peace, Aunt Laura. I will love you forever and miss you always. And to my family back home, I wish I could be there in person to share your burden. Please rest assured that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. XOXO
