Obituary for Burnal "Bob" Benson

Burnal "Bob" Benson, 84, of East Hartford, left a loving wife and children on this day, Wednesday, (April 13, 2011). Born in Honeyville, Utah on October 5, 1926, a son of the late Reuben and Sibyl (Hunsaker) Benson, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1948. Bob was a devoted husband married to Gloria "Glo" Benson for over 63 years. Bob was a gentle giant who leaves behind four daughters, Karen Tavernier, Kathy Benson, Kris Benson, Kim Beaver and a son, Keith Benson. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kaye LeBrun. Bob is also survived by sons-in-law, Dave Tavernier, Floyd Gaskill, Ray LeBrun, and Rick Beaver; and a daughter-in-law, Anna Benson; a sister and her husband, Helen and Bob Woods of Nevada; a brother and his wife, Lynn and Ann Benson of Utah. Besides his beloved daughter and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Erol and Lyle Benson. A true papa in every sense of the word, he leaves behind multiple grand and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Bob served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a Submariner with the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Hamilton Standard after 44 years as a General Foreman in the Shipping Department. Bob was a long-time faithful member of South Congregational Church, East Hartford, and a 21-year Auxiliary Trooper with the Connecticut State Police, Troop H. Papa was an avid reader who enjoyed line-dancing, biking, wii bowling, bocce, and Friday night dinners and a movie with his wife and best friends, Bunny and Bruce. Funeral services will be Tuesday (April 19, 2011) at 10 a.m. at the South Congregational Church, East Hartford with Rev. Al Turner officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Palmertown Cemetery, Bass Road, Scotland. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Tuesday morning). Bob's family will receive friends and relatives on Monday (April 18, 2011) from 4– 7:30 pm at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
