Obituary for Bertha May Powell (Dickerson)

Bertha May Powell (Dickerson)
Sadly we say goodbye to a very special lady, Bertha May Powell, wife of Hillas Powell, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4th, 2010 at the age of 94 years. Bertha was born at Amulet, Saskatchewan to May and Arthur Dickerson, the fourth of seven daughters. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 71 years; her youngest sister Ethel; her daughter Beverly (Dave) of Regina; two sons, Stanley (Bev) of Calgary, AB and Bill (Judi) of Millarville, AB; and sister-in-law Ruth Butler (Ellsworth) of Denver, CO. She will also be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren; Cheryl (Terry) of Regina, Lisa (Darren) of Calgary, Deanna (Geoff) Hearne, Richelle (Steve) of Holmdel, NJ, Cole of Victoria, BC, Kevin (Tina) of Millarville, Michael (Iska) of Calgary, Wendy (James) of Okotoks, AB and Christopher (Sandi) of High River, AB; 19 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families and friends and neighbours in the Rouleau district. Bertha moved to the Rouleau area in the heart of the dirty thirties, and lived there for the rest of her life except for winters spent in Hawaii and Arizona. These were wonderful times spent with many family members and friends. Bertha loved her flowers and garden and was an ever loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with family being the major focus of her life. Celebration of her life will take place at the Rouleau United Church, in Rouleau, SK on December 10th at 2:00 p.m, with Rev. Jo Mader officiating. Following the ceremony, a gathering of family and friends will take place in the Rouleau Town Hall. Special thanks to the caregivers who have cared for Bertha and Hillas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan Branch, #1-2217 Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 9Z9 or to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 7T1.
