Obituary for Evelyn Mary McAllister

Evelyn Mary McAllister
After a short illness, Evelyn Mary McAllister died at Tri-Town Extendicare Nursing Home on September 25, 2010. She was born in Haileybury on July 12, 1913, to Stephen and Alice (nee Cook) Grawey. Educated in Powassan and Haileybury, she married Harold McAllister in Cobalt in 1934. Mrs. McAllister was a homemaker first of all. For many years she worked for Robinson’s Ladies Wear. She lived in her own home until the age of 93 when she was able to move to the new Northdale Manor which she loved so much. In December of 2009 she moved to Extendicare. Mrs. McAllister was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Liskeard which she loved and for which she worked tirelessly on many committees. She was also involved with the horticultural society and loved to garden and always had a vegetable garden. She was also an amazing cook. In later years, Mrs. McAllister and her husband spent 27 winters in Florida where they were involved in shuffleboard, traveling all over to either play or referee. She also loved to knit and crochet, even in her 90s. Mrs. McAllister was predeceased by her husband Harold on December 2, 2001, by an infant daughter in 1946 and by four sisters. She is survived by her daughter Marion Pannell (Walter) and son Doug McAllister (Katherine); six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 29, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in New Liskeard, conducted by Reverend Bob McCarty. Pallbearers are Ron Erwin, Angelo Platias, Shane Pannell, Chad Walsh, Siri Ellis and Patrick Bambrick. Burial is at the Pioneer Cemetery in New Liskeard.
