Obituary for Jerry Dean Lonon Jr.

Jerry “Dean” Lonon, Jr., age 37, of Johnson City died Sunday, August 8, 2001 at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, the son of Marion Cabell Wilkes Lonon and Jerry Dean Lonon, Sr.

Mr. Lonon was a 1992 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State University.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Mr. Lonon was a co-owner and manager of Lion Office Products and Central Mini-Storage.

Mr. Lonon was a young man who embraced life with much joy and enthusiasm, especially enjoying his nieces and nephew, his pets, Dodger, Callie, Oreo, Catsby and Teaser. He was a computer specialist and loved to work with computers and to program them. He was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed swimming, snorkeling and cooking for family and friends on the grill.

He was a volunteer for the Lions Club and worked with the Ties for the Blind Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ruby Miller Lonon and James E. Lonon, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Dotty Miller Wilkes and Clem Wilkes, Sr.; an uncle, Harold Jackson Lonon and a close friend, Jim Myron.

Mr. Lonon is survived by loving parents, two sisters, Louisa Taylor and her husband Jason of Cleveland, TN and Andrea Lonon of Portland, OR a great aunt, Sarah W. Upson of Greensboro, North Carolina; three uncles, James Earl Lonon, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Marion, North Carolina, Haynes Wilkes and his wife Bonnie, Clem Wilkes and his wife Tonya, both of Johnson City; one aunt, Dorothy Wilkes Bedor and husband John of Hillsborough, North Carolina , two nieces Jessica and Sarah Taylor and one nephew, Jacob Taylor, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services for Dean Lonon will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Graveside services and burial will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at St. John’s on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Father Dr. Hal Hutchison will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 N Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
