August 30, 1919 – December 9, 2007
Bertram “Bert” Leonard Ruttenberg, age 88, died at 6:50pm, Sunday in the Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Memorial Hospital. His loving family was by his side.

Services were held Tuesday at the Merkle Funeral Home, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township, with Rabbi Moshe Saks of B’nai Israel, Toledo, Ohio officiating. Burial followed at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with full military honors.

Bert was born, August 30, 1919 in Berks County, Pennsylvania the son of M. George and Minnie (Fine) Ruttenberg. He graduated from Mount Penn High School in Reading, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army during World War II from June 5, 1941 to December 16, 1945. During that time he served in the Pacific Theater obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On March 30, 1947, in Reading, Pennsylvania he married Bette Resnick.

Bert was a furniture salesman for over fifty years retiring from Brighter Furniture, Reading, Pennsylvania in 1985. Following retirement Bert and Bette moved to Boynton Beach, Florida where they lived from 1996-2006. He was a Mason, a member of the Kesher Zion Choir, Captain of the Jewish War Veterans, and a Life Member of Hadassah. Bert enjoyed playing golf and painting by numbers. In 2006, Bert and Bette moved to Monroe, Michigan to be near their son and family.

In addition to his wife of sixty years, Bette; he is survived by a son: Wayne and daughter-in-law April (Michaels) Ruttenberg; step grandson: Brian R. (Sharidy) Harrington; granddaughter: Kimberly Ruttenberg all of Monroe; great granddaughter: Emma Greenidge of Seattle, Washington; step great grandson: Brian R. Harrington Jr. and step great grandson: David Manor both of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
