Condolences

Condolence From: Jim Larson
Condolence: With spring in the air, thoughts of the Ausable came to mind today. Of course I was interested to read Rusty's report on how the river was fishing. How sad to learn of his passing. He was one of the few people I know who lived what he loved. Tight line my friend.

Condolence From: Rich and Dianne Dombrowski
Condolence: Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rusty's wife and children. It is unlikely that we can count the lives that Rusty touched - from those who saw and spoke with him daily to those who only met him once. Rusty will remain with many of those whose lives he influenced because, in some respect he can never leave us. He is one of those people who enter our lives and make us better human beings for having met them.

Condolence: May we all take comfort knowing 'Rusty' is still watching the AuSable. He rests in the arms of Him, who called His disciples, "Fishers of Men".

Condolence: To the Gates Family:
Rusty will truly be missed...he fought a long fight and now is at rest. I always enjoyed visiting the lodge and fly shop and will continue to do so. All the best in this tough time, and always remember the good times!

Condolence From: Howard and Kathleen Witt
Condolence: Our most cherished memories over the last two decades are of the Ausable, Rusty and Julie, and their animal companions. We look forward to returning to the Ausable in the spring. The river will not be the same without Rusty, but it will always be grateful for his efforts on its behalf, and he will always be a treasured part of it.

Condolence From: Art Wakeley
Condolence: Rusty’s life, despite its tragic end, is a story of resolve, of triumph, of hope, of strength and of course, love. To say he was passionate is an understatement. To say he was a conservationist is an understatement. Those who knew him as a passionate conservationist know that Rusty took it to the next level. Rusty was perfectly suited for the life of AuSable River steward and did all he could to minimize his Eco-footprint. Too soon, that stewardship has ended. A good friend and neighbor, Rusty Gates will be missed. Like Rusty, his commitment will be long remembered as well.
Sincerely, Art Wakeley

We were so happy that we were able to visit the Lodge this summer and for Jim to reconnect with Rusty and his cousins after so many years.
