Obituary for Dewey William "Bill" Phillips

Funeral services for Mr.Dewey William "Bill" Phillips, age 83 of Anniston, will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Golden Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Roland Brown, Reverend Jim Simpson, and Reverend Ken Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Golden Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. A native and life long resident of Calhoun County, Mr. Phillips retired from South Central Bell after forty-one years of service and was also a member of the Lion's Club of Calhoun County, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Phillips served his country in the US Navy during World War II and was an active member of Golden Springs Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for many years. He is survived by his wife, Joyce S. Phillips of Anniston; a daughter, Jan Phillips Baugh and husband, Jim, of Daphne, AL; sons, David W. Phillips and wife, Carol, of Covington, GA, and James Barry Phillips and wife, Jan, of Gardendale; a sister, Jane Glass and husband, Bill, of Pinson; grandchildren, Gary Hall, David Phillips, Jr., Landon Phillips, Matt Phillips, Russ Phillips, Lorie Baugh Cooper, and Russell Baugh; fourteen great grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; and very special friends, Mary Lou Woodruff and Charlotte Koon. Pallbearers will be David Phillips, Jr., Gary Hall, Matt Phillips, Russ Phillips, Russell Baugh, Landon Phillips, and Mark Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Millard Turner, Chuck Jones, Sanford Smith, the Usher Staff and members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Golden Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Golden Springs Baptist Church, 3 Robertson Road, Anniston, AL 36207.
