Obituary for Effie Elrod (Johnson)

Mrs. Effie Johnson Elrod, 99, formerly of 1380 Milligan Hwy., Carter County died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Asbury Place.

Mrs. Elrod was a lifelong resident of Carter County. She was the daughter of the late John Madison and Maggie Little Johnson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Boy” Elrod; one son, Leroy William Elrod; one daughter-in-law, Myrtle Strickland Elrod; one sister, Arabelle Taylor; two grandchildren, Frederick Leroy Lick and Robin Diane Lick Edwards.

Mrs. Elrod retired from Leon-Fernbach. She was the oldest member of the N.G. Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Dorothy D. Lick of Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Randy Lick and his wife Janet, Sandy Harwood and her husband Rocky, Karen Johnson and her husband Aron, Joe Edwards, Shirley Lovelace and her husband Benny, Sheila Elrod Culbert and John Elrod; eleven great grandchildren, Monica Harwood, Cody Edwards, Drew Edwards, Wesley Lick, Megan Eller, Emily Wallace, Eric Wallace, Kim Oliver and her husband David, Tracy McGuire and her husband Todd, Amy Jones Elrod and Adam Culbert; nine great great grandchildren, Bryson Harwood, Braiden Harwood, Jordan Oliver, Kayli Oliver, Koby Oliver, Isaiah Conley, Haley Conley, Camden McGuire and Cayden McGuire.

The funeral service for Effie Johnson Elrod will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, January 9, 2009 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Mack Houston and Rev. Sara Wells will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be: Wesley Lick, Joe Edwards, Cody Edwards, Drew Edwards, Rocky Harwood, Benny Lovelace and John Elrod. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM Saturday.
The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the N.G. Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, 3031 South Roan Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37601.
