Obituary for Dwight J. Monroe

SIOUX CITY -- Dwight J. Monroe, 78, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Monroe will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com.

Dwight was born on April 13, 1930, in Three Rivers, Mich., the son of Dwight and Dorothy Monroe. He was raised in Three Rivers. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1957. Dwight moved to Sioux City around 1970.

He married Patricia M. St. John on Oct. 28, 1972, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed as a truck driver for Marx Trucking from 1970 to 1993. After his retirement, he then worked for a few years as a security guard for Marx Trucking.

Dwight enjoyed wood carving and made bird houses and wind chimes.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia M. Monroe of Sioux City; five children, Vickie, Karen, Bruce, Lance and Scott Monroe; two sisters, Nancy Gottschalk and Linda Fostich, both of Michigan; two brothers, Charles Monroe of Texas, and Frank Monroe of Florida; as well as a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
