Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Shope

Mary Elizabeth Shope, 92 of Blanchard formerly of Monument passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007 in Lock Haven, Pa.
She was born in Mill Hall, Pa. on May 27, 1915.  A daughter of the late Charles E. & Edna Grace Sankey Gummo.  She married Raymond H. Shope on November 4, 1939 in Great Island Presbyterian Church in Lock Haven, Pa.  Raymond passed away on January 18, 1983.
Mary was a graduate of the Lock Haven High School in 1933 and a 1937 graduate of Lock Haven State Treachers College with a B.S. in education.  She was a elementary teacher with the Keystone Central School Districk, retiring on June 15, 1973 after 28 1/2 years of service, 22 1/2 years in Monument and 6 years at Liberty-Curtin Elementary School, Blanchard, Pa.
She was a member of the Monument Church of Christ.  She was also a member of the Clinton Co. Branch of PA. Retired Public School Employee Assoc., and National Teachers Assoc., former officer with the Monument Public Water Assoc.
She is survived by 3 daughters;  Ms. Grace Ellen Shope of Jenkintown, Pa., Mrs. Eleanor Lee Marasco and husband Joseph "Skip" of Blanchard, Ms. Margaret Ann "Maggie" Shope of Blanchard, a daughter-n-law Mrs. Judith K. Shope of Monument.  She was preceded in death by a son; Ray Allen Shope on June 4, 1990.
She is also survived by 2 sisters;  Mrs. Jane Heverly and husband Harold of Blanchard, and Mrs. Peggy Bierly and husband William of Albuquerque, N.M.   She was preceded by a sister; Joy Ann Gummo.  Two brothers; Boyd Gummo of Currwensville and Thomas Gummo & wife Barbara of Parowan, Utah.  She was preceded in death by 3 brothers; John, Paul, and Bruce Gummo.
Mary has 5 grandchildren; Mickey B. Shope of Eagleville, Christopoher E. Marasco of Lock Haven, Ms. Elizabeth J. Shope of Jenkintown, Mrs. Amy K. Weaver of Egaleville, Mrs, Michelle L. Fickes of Beech Creek Twp.,  Also by 9 great-grandchildren;  Kristina & Derek Shope, Morgan, Loren, Matthew and Lane Marasco, William Carter, Rachel and Bree Weaver.
Visitation will be Wednesday,  January 2, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m.at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard, Pa. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Charles E. Gummo (her nephew) officiating. Burial will be at  Schencks Cemetery, Howard Twp., Pa.
