Obituary for Linda L McDowell (Lahr)

Linda I. McDowell, 57, of Delhi, Iowa, died of cancer on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at her home.

Private family services will be Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester. Burial will be in the Forrestville Cemetery, rural Dundee.

Linda was born June 18, 1951 in Manchester. She was the youngest child of Peter A. and Irene A. (Braun) Lahr. She attended school in Delhi and Manchester. She was united in marriage to Robert W. “RW” McDowell on July 4, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. For over 35 years, RW and Linda owned and operated RW McDowell Truck and Auto Repair and A-1 Storage Service, Inc. in Manchester. Linda was employed at Exide Battery in Manchester for several years before retiring in 2001 to spend more time with her granddaughter.

Linda enjoyed spending time swimming and boating with family and friends at their lake home in Delhi. She spent much time laughing and working with her family. She always looked forward to the weekly lunches with her sisters and brothers. Her granddaughter, Julia, was the light of her life and Linda was a faithful attendee to many of Julia’s activities. Her family was very important to her and will be remembered for the love she showed them.

Linda is survived by her husband of 38 years, RW McDowell of Delhi; a daughter, Valerie I. McDowell of Cedar Rapids; a son, Nick R. McDowell of Manchester a granddaughter, Julia I. McDowell of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Valene (LeRoy) Schnieders of Manchester, Mary Ann (Donald) Digmann of Hopkinton, Joan (Jerry) Heyer of Manchester; three brothers, Donald Lahr of Manchester, LaVern (Mary Weber) Lahr of Marion, and Charles (Nancy) Lahr of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Irene Lahr; three sisters, Betty Lahr, Teresa Lahr, and Patricia Pierce; and one nephew, Greg Schnieders.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be directed to the Hopkinton Meal Service, P.O. Box 123, Hopkinton, IA 52237.
