Memories

Chuck was the only guy I knew that could draw on a napkin at lunch, take it back to the shop and draw it to correct dimensions. Then he would take the drawing out to the shop, build the machine and install it at the customer's plant. Chuck was one of the Greatest inventors/engineers I will ever know! The first time in my life I went deer/elk hunting was with Chuck. We actually hunted on horseback in Colorado. I will never forget it. I remember waking up before daylight, warming the bridle mouth pieces in our hands, saddling the horses and riding for an hour up the mountain before sunrise. We hunted on the mountains, had lunch on the rocks and a little nap. Next it was time to hunt a few more hours, before beginning the journey back to camp. The trip from Elkhart to Colorado was also an adventure. I remember Chuck telling me about this little bar in Paxton Nebraska called Ole's. Chuck said they had the best hot dogs around. It was located about one mile north of I-80 in western Nebraska. It wasn't just a bar, but a wild game museum. There are all types of animal mounts from a full size Polar Bear to Elephants and everything in between. I now live in Omaha, Nebraska and have had the opportunity to take many people to the same bar. Each time I go I share the story of how I first became acquainted with Ole's through Chuck Reed. Chuck, you had a bigger impact on me than you will ever know. Thanks for the memories! Ken Kesler
