Obituary:Petty Officer First Class Alec F. Mazur, 35, of Virginia Beach, VA, and formerly of Vernon, died March 9, 2005 in Mande Bay, Mombasa, Kenya. He was born May 29, 1969, in New Hartford, the son of John (Jack) and Linda Emeterio Mazur. He was a 1988 graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. On October 10, 1997, he married Dawn Larkin in Virginia Beach, VA. Their marriage was blessed by the Church at a ceremony on October 10, 1998 in St. John the Baptist Church in Rome. After becoming an Eagle Scout in 1987, Alec went to Basic Training in Orlando, FL. He then went to SeaBee School in Gulfport, MS. He was currently stationed at NAB Little Creek, Norfolk, VA. At Little Creek, he was a member of Underwater Construction Team-One (UCT-One), with a bunch of great SeaBeeā€™s. While with UCT-One, Alec served in the Gulf War in 1991 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003 and 2005. He was recognized as Sailor of the Year in 2003 and again in 2004. Surviving besides his wife and parents, are one daughter, Bree, and one son, Dylan, both at home; one brother, Joshua, Vernon; maternal grandmother, Monette Baxter-Kinney, Bonifay, FL; mother-in-law, Carolyn Larkin, Rome; father-in-law, Terrance Larkin, Rome; two brothers-in-law, Richard and Michelle Larkin, Rome, and William and Joan Larkin, Rome; a sister-in-law, Mary and Ron Townsend, Rome; three nieces, Brittney Townsend, and Kimberly and Savannah Larkin; three nephews, Eric and Steven Townsend, and Tyler Larkin; and three second cousins, Mason Brown, Realynn Osborne, and Rylie Towne. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills at 11am. Interment will take place in Kirkland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
