Obituary for Etta (Jean) Vesey (Stovall)

Etta “Jean” Vesey, 84, of Galena, Illinois, formerly of Delhi, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Delhi United Methodist Church by Rev. Lorraine Hartman. Family will greet friends from 4 " 7:00 pm on Friday at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour at the church prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi.

Jean was born April 15, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Samuel and Agnes (Burgess) Stovall. She attended Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri. On April 12, 1941, Jean was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Robert Vesey at Independence, Missouri. She worked at Trans World Airlines and Pratt Whitney in Kansas City while Hank served in the military. Upon his discharge in 1945, the couple moved to Delhi, Iowa. Jean raised her family then went to work for the Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Manchester, and John McDonald Hospital, Monticello. The couple moved to Galena in 2007.

Jean was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to read, grow her flowers, enjoyed animals and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her husband of 66 years, Hank Vesey of Galena, IL; seven children: Charles & Joyce Vesey of Muscatine, Judy & Richard Boeckenstedt of Dyersville, Barbara & Merlyn Green of Freeport, IL, Susan & Jeff Hiller of Council Bluffs, Nancy & Jack Seymour of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Vesey of Madison, WI, and Janice & Howard Litvack, Franklin TN.; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty three great-grand children.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel & Agnes Stovall; a brother, Arthur Strang; and one grandson, Richard Boeckenstedt, Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery and Delhi First Responders.
