Obituary for Dorothy Lawrence Swift

Dorothy Lawrence  Swift
Mrs. Dorothy Lawrence Swift, age 91, of 1170 Chulio Road, Rome, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Swift was born in LaFayette, GA on March 12, 1922, daughter of the late Fred Lawrence and Lola Lee Doty McKaig. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Milton Swift. Mrs. Swift was a member of Mizpah United Methodist Church where she was very active in several ministries. She was a Sunday School Teacher, MYF Leader, and she sang in the choir. Mrs. Swift worked for several years in a job she enjoyed as the Secretary for the Natural Sciences Department at Floyd College. She was a poet and enjoyed hand painting china.

Survivors include her three children, a daughter, Brenda Swift Treadaway, Lindale, a son, William "Bill" Ray Swift, and his wife, Ellen Painter, Jasper, and a daughter, Jane L. Swift, Atlanta; one step-brother, Julian McKaig; three grandchildren, Lori Treadaway Collett, and her husband, Robert, Julie Dougherty, and her husband, Patrick, and Erin Libby, and her husband, Oliver; three great-grandchildren, Brian Collett, Trey Fitts, and Katelyn Dougherty; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Baird officiating. Interment will follow in Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 10:30am until 11:30am. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or www.alz.org.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
