Obituary for Maynard Rowe

Maynard  Rowe
Maynard Charles Rowe, 85, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue where full military rites will be accorded by the Bellevue American Legion Post #273. Visitation for Maynard will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial at 1:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery will follow the luncheon.

Maynard was born on December 13, 1927 in Independence, IA, son of Charles William Rowe and Ida Luella (Schneider) Rowe of Troy Mills, IA.

He grew up and worked on the family farm north of Troy Mills. Maynard graduated from Troy Mills High School, and then served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

On March 21, 1953, he married Arlene Emma (Dreier) Buttolph. After farming and working as a tractor mechanic, he worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 23 years, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he and Arlene lived in Ely, MN for seven years, where Maynard enjoyed fishing, cross-country skiing, and hiking in the north woods, which he called “God’s Country.”

Maynard will be deeply missed by the many of people whose lives he has touched.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Arlene, of Dubuque; three daughters, Gloria (Russell) Clausen, of Bellevue, Barbara Day, of Dubuque, and Susan (Barry) Chapman, of St. Charles, Missouri; son-in-law Roger Keil, of Bellevue; twelve grandchildren, Shane Clausen, Minot, ND, Drew Clausen, Clinton, Kyle (Raquel) Clausen, Bellevue, Trent (Lori) Clausen, Bellevue, Allan Keil, Bellevue, Ardel Keil, Aurora, CO, Janell (David) Yaddof, Bellevue, Garth Day, Dubuque, Christopher Day, Madison, WI. Brandon Mueller, St. Louis, MO,and Morgan and Mackenzie Chapman, St. Charles, MO; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clair (Florine) Rowe, of Cedar Falls IA, and Donald (Ann) Rowe, of Cedar Rapids IA; two sisters-in-law, Louise Rowe, of Walker, IA, and Edna Rowe, of Moline, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Keil; son in-law, Robert Day, Jr. and three brothers, Walter, Leland and Kenneth.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion.

Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous, Hospice of Dubuque, or St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bellevue.
