Pearl Cozzens
Pearl Helen Cozzens
April 12, 1925-February 1, 2013
87, Colorado Springs

Pearl Helen Duell Cozzens, 87, of Colorado Springs, CO died February 1, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, surrounded by family. Pearl was born Easter Sunday morning, April 12, 1925, at the family home northeast of Greeley, CO to Harvey and Helen Swanson Duell. Pearl was the fifth of 13 children.

Pearl graduated from Kersey High School in 1944 and married Fred Cozzens, Jr. on March 29, 1945. Pearl and Fred established their home on the Cozzens homestead farm southeast of Eaton, CO and lived there until 1975. Pearl carried her family’s rich Swedish heritage of cooking, baking and hospitality into her own home, continuing to develop into the gracious and seasoned hostess that many of us enjoyed and admired through the years. In her childhood and as an adult, Pearl was an active member of the Greeley first Covenant Church. In the early 1970s, she was a board member of Greeley Christian Women’s Club and a member of the Eaton Evangelical Free Church.

In 1975 Pearl and Fred moved to Wray, Colorado, where Fred and his two sons farmed. Pearl was a charter member of New Life Christian Center of Eckley and a good friend to many. In 1992 they moved to Colorado Springs where Pearl became a member of Radiant Church. She also volunteered at Compassion International and Mission of Mercy, and supported other ministries. In 2010 Pearl began attending Church at Briargate.

Throughout her life, Pearl wholeheartedly dedicated herself to her family and community as a loving, caring and hard-working daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She continually looked for opportunities to serve and bless others. Her consistent love, joy, positive attitude, beautiful smile, and love for Jesus Christ blessed many through the years.

Pearl is survived by her husband of 68 years, Fred Cozzens of Colorado Springs, daughter Sharon (Jim) Brandt of Houston, TX, son Harvey (Priscilla) Cozzens of Montrose, CO, son Elmer Dean Cozzens of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Marlene (Dean) Swartz of Longmont, CO, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers – Herbert, Ray and David Duell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration service will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, 1:00 p.m. at Church at Briargate in Colorado Springs. Interment will be Friday, Feb. 8, 10:00 a.m. at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, CO. A celebration service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 12:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Eaton, CO.
