Obituary for Virginia G. Martin

MUNCIE - Virginia G. Martin, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born March 26, 1924 in Floyd County, Virginia. She moved to Muncie in March, 1945 and on June 18, 1949, she married James B. Martin.
Virginia worked as a waitress early on at various restaurants in the Muncie area, holding down multiple jobs trying to make ends meet as a single mom. She later worked as a Sorter at Ball Corporation for several years until 1962 when she became a full-time homemaker.
She loved spending time with her family and she also enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, jigsaw puzzles, and even the occasional video/computer game. She was a member of Warner Gear Sympathy Club, as well as a past member of The Moose & Eagles Auxiliaries.
Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-three years, James B. Martin; a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene (Gene) and Jenny Reed, both of Muncie; a sister and brother-in-law, Sherrell and Phyllis Poff, Willis, VA; a sister-in-law, Audrey Akers, Sarasota, FL; a niece, Vickie Sowers (husband, Joe), Floyd, VA; a granddaughter, Emily Malloy & great-grandson, Sean Malloy, both of Selma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woody Akers and Toye (Duncan) Akers, and her brother, Woody Clarence Akers.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie.
Calling for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Ken Nicola will officiate.
