Obituary for Daniel Junior Felton

Daniel Junior Felton, 85, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his home with loving family around him.He was born in Rowlesburg on January 26, 1927, the son of the late Daniel and Ova (Goff) Felton.Daniel graduated from Rowlesburg High School, and then joined the Navy near the end of WWII serving as a Radioman aboard ship in the Pacific theater. Afterward he returned to Rowlesburg and worked for the B&O Railroad for a short time before moving to Morgantown where he worked for the WVU Physical Plant and Mail Room. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. After retiring he worked at Harner’s Gulf Station in Westover for ten years. Daniel was a long time member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church, was a Charter member of the Monongalia County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. As a young man he was an avid trout fisherman and squirrel hunter. He especially enjoyed camping, canoeing, and hiking with his family. He instilled in his son and daughter a great love of and respect for nature. Some of their happiest memories are of the times they spent together in the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Phillips) Felton his daughter Karen Felton and her six children Jason, Jacob, Sarah, Caleb, Isaac, and Luke, also surviving is his son Bruce and his wife Deborah and their two children daughter Brooke (Mrs. Howard Mearns) and son Bryan Felton. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives Paul and Betty of Rowlesburg, and Hugh and Helen of Short Gap, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, and again from 10 a.m -11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Craig Falkenstine officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery, Morgantown.
