Obituary for Michael L. Zyla

Michael L. Zyla

Age 56. Passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born September 21, 1952 to Paul P. and Mary R. (Coomer) Zyla. Mike lived his whole life in the Crest Hill/Joliet area. He married Marcia (Leonhardt) Zyla on April 9, 1974.

Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marcia; one daughter, Kimberly Hope (Jeff) Bernabei; one beloved grandson, Russell Bernabei; two sisters, Russiel (Jack) Abrahamson and Dorothy (Mike) Cullen; one brother, Paul E. (Maria) Zyla; one aunt, Dorothy (late Norbert) Olejniczak; one brother-in-law, Donald Leonhardt, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Melodie Barnett and Martha Leonhardt; beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike graduated from Joliet Junior College with an Associates in Arts, and Governor State with a Bachelor of Arts. Mike worked in the banking industry for many years and held various positions including Vice President and Auditor. After his illness, Mike assisted in the office at Greg's Body Shop. Mike was a Notary Public for Will County of Illinois. He was active in the Lyons Club and Wish Upon a Star Organizations.

Mike enjoyed fishing, traveling and dining out. He had a passion for his pets. He especially liked feeding the birds in the backyard and would spend hours watching them.

Funeral Services for Michael L. Zyla will be Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Anne Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the wishes of the family would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 4-8 p.m. at:
