Obituary for Robert Lincoln Booker

Robert Lincoln Booker
Robert Lincoln Booker was affectionately known as “Pap” to his family and “Bob” to his friends. Pap started his life in Lufkin, Texas, the second son of Ila and John Olin Booker. After graduating high school, Pap joined the Marine Corps to follow his brother John into battle during WWII. Just after boot camp, the war ended and Pap enrolled at Texas A&M University. Before graduation, the Korean War broke out and Pap was called back to serve his country. During his second tour, he was assigned to be a Drill Instructor to train new recruits. After successfully training several platoons, Pap was assigned to the range to be a Rifle Instructor, an assignment that he was most proud of during his Marine Corps career. He was next sent to Officer Candidate School in Washington DC to entice him into re-enlisting as an officer. Having enough of military life, Pap returned to Texas A&M to finish his degree in Geology. After graduation Pap began working for Midwest Oil Company where he remained as a Petroleum Geologist until the early 70’s when he left to start his own firm. He would later become President and founder of Pelon Exploration. Pap had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished Naturalist and could identify flora and fauna in addition to pointing out interesting rock formations on the many hillsides of Texas. Pap’s greatest gift to his family was passing on this passion for the outdoors. He traveled thousands of miles to fish and explored thousands of acres hunting for game. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, they are now united in heaven to look down upon us all with pride knowing someday we will all be together again.
