AUBURN — Rick Stone passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by loving family and friends.
Rick was born June 1, 1959, and grew up in Tioga, Pa. He graduated high school in 1977 and first served his country by joining the Navy, where he served from 1978 until 1985. He rose to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class and served in both Jacksonville, Fla., and Brunswick.
He married Patti Cook in 1979, and they had a son, Christopher Stone.
He went on to marry to Cindy Wheeler on May 24, 1986, and they had five children, Kyle (engaged to Angela Bourret), Nicholas, Isaac, Rebekah and Samuel Stone.
Also surviving are his parents, Paul and Mildred Stone of Tioga, Pa.; brothers, Roger (Lydia), Roy (Rose) and Randy(Maureen) Stone; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws; and his longtime friends, Randy and Kelly Jelliff of Tioga, Pa.
Rick was a member of Eastgate Christian Fellowship and it was that faith that saw him through his journey. He often spoke of the priorities in his life — his faith, his family, and his career, in that order.
Rick joined the Maine Warden Service on Feb. 24, 1986. In advance, he volunteered for a time with Florida Fish and Game, just to make sure Maine knew he wanted the job.
During his 26-year career, Rick received numerous awards and honors, the highlight of which was being named Warden of the Year in 2001. He also served on the Warden Service Dive Team and was its most senior member.
He also served part-time as an associate at the L.L.Bean Hunt-Fish Store.
In his spare time, Rick continued his love for the outdoors. He loved giving his children opportunities to hunt and fish, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time out on the water recreating with his family and friends.
The Chief of the Maine Warden Service, Joel Wilkinson, said, “The qualities that made Rick a good person made him a good game warden.” He will be remembered for being both.
Special mention should also go out to Dr. David Caldwell, and his favorite nurse, Mary Ann, for the care they gave Rick throughout his illness.

STONE — Richard Gene “Rick,” passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Pinette and Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at Pineland Farms. In lieu of flowers, the public is asked to send contributions for the Stone children to the Maine Warden Service Association, 358 Shaker Road, Gray, ME 04039.
